I have never been to Veyo, Utah, even though I have heard about it from several people.  My brother told me I needed to go to the Veyo Pool, several people told me about the volcano there and I heard numerous St. George residents mention the delicious pies you can buy in Veyo.  Veyo is located in Washington County.  The 2016 census showed a population of 515 for Veyo.  I couldn’t find much factual information about Veyo, Utah or the Veyo Volcano, but Wikipedia says that some in the community say that Veyo stands for the acronym of “Virtue, Enterprise, Youth and Order,” while others say the town got its name from a town in Spain referred to as La Pena which means “rocky outcrop.”

I set out to visit Veyo for myself by way of Gunlock Reservoir.   The drive through Santa Clara on Old Highway 91 is always fun.  I turned onto Gunlock Drive and passed by the beautiful reservoir, full of water.  I accidentally came across a fun little swimming hole that I hope to go back to, complete with a rope swing.

I continued along Gunlock Drive and drove right into Veyo on Center Street.  Where Center Street meets Main Street, I found Veyo Pies immediately to my right.  If you have not experienced eating a piece of pie from Veyo Pie, you are missing out.  I ordered banana cream.  The pie was fresh, the bananas were abundant and the crust was scrumptious. I plan to order pies from here often, especially since Veyo is a short 20 miles from St. George, on Bluff Street, further on to Utah Highway 18.

I could see the Veyo Volcano in the distance.  The only thing I could find about this volcano is that it is a Holocene Volcano.  This means that this volcano erupted during the Holocene period which is approximately 11,700 years ago to the present.  I hope to learn more about the volcano.

Finally, I stopped by the Veyo Pool.  This pool was established in a canyon in 1927.  An all-day pass for $8.50 allows you to swim in the pool, hike in the area, picnic, and catch crawdads in the river nearby.  For an additional $8.50 you can rock climb in the canyon, as well.  I heard the corndogs at the pool are the very best corndogs around, but the line for corndogs was way to long, so I ended up leaving before I could experience one.

I truly enjoyed getting out of St. George, for a quick side-trip to Veyo, Utah.  I hope to bring my family back to Veyo to enjoy the pool, a corndog, possibly a hike to the top of the volcano and for sure to eat delicious pie!

Live life to the fullest with no regrets!
