Although it is still February, it’s time to start thinking about spring break in St.George, and this means more than just your family’s spring break.St. George plays host to many events that attract athletes, runners and tourists during this time of year. While it may feel like the north is invading, there are some things you can do to manage the influx.

Prepare for Crowds

More people means more crowds, everywhere. While St. George is never really crowded, stores and restaurants can get a little busier this time of year. Allow time for a little more traffic while traveling and don’t be surprised if you need to wait a longer at stores and restaurants. Mentally preparing and adjusting for the crowds will make spring break season a lot easier.

Pay Attention to Community Calendars

Community calendars can alert you to especially crowded times. For example, the St. George Half Marathon is March 14. It helps to know about these activities ahead of time, so you will know when the greatest influx of visitors, crowds and traffic are probably going to occur. Other activities to look out for are athletic tournaments and arts festivals.

Take a Break from Tourism Hot Spots

Over President’s Day weekend, the hotels were full and Zion National Park was a string of bumper to bumper traffic. Plan to visit the tourism spots, such as Zion National Park, during the off season. We live so close to great state and national parks to visit. You’ll enjoy them a lot more on a random weekend in January, or a week off in November, than with the large spring break crowds.

Get Involved!

While the extra traffic may feel annoying, spring break tourism is actually great for St. George’s economy. Find a way to get involved and capitalize on the experience. Offer a business special to visitors on spring break, volunteer at a local event or sign up for the race. The more you are involved in the community experience, the more you can enjoy your prime St. George real estate.

While spring break season is busier for St. George, it is definitely manageable. Adjust your expectations, plan ahead and get involved. Avoid crowds when you can, and when you can’t, embrace the tourism. Remember that more visitors is great for the local economy, which is great fo St. George home prices. We live in a gorgeous area that everyone wants to visit. Be sure to enjoy your time here as well.
