Spring is the perfect time to tackle some annual cleaning projects. You can clean the winter gloom out of the house, and the weather is nice enough to work outside. In St. George, cleaning projects become more difficult during the summer when it’s too hot. Now that the beautiful April weather is here, let’s go over six great spring cleaning projects!
Clear Out Clutter
Springtime is all about shedding the heaviness of winter. Take this literally and get rid of as much clutter as you can. Go through paperwork and receipts (which will also help with your taxes) and recycle whatever you don’t need.Clear out your kids’ toys and clothes they don’t use anymore and donate it all to a local charity. Each year, turn the hangers in your closet around to face the wrong direction. When you wear something, turn the hanger around the right way. By the end of the year, whatever hangers are still facing the wrong direction, give away. If you haven’t worn it all year, you probably aren’t going to.
Wash Windows
Dirt, dust and water spots build up on your windows all year long. Hose down your closed windows from the outside and use glass cleaner on the inside. Pull out the screens and rinse those as well. While the screens are removed, take a wet washcloth and clean out the tracks and frames too. Dust and dirt builds up, so make sure to pay attention to this often-missed spot.
On Top of Shelves and Underneath Furniture
How often do you dust off the tops of your cabinets and high shelves that you can’t see? How about under your couches, beds, and dressers? It’s easy to forget or ignore these areas, so make this one of your spring cleaning projects. Even though you may not be able to ever see these areas, the dust build up is unhealthy for you and your family and should be removed.
Light Fixtures
Dust and bugs often get stuck in your light fixtures. Take this time to clean these fixtures as best as you can. If you have glass covers or shaves that are removeable (and without wires!) you can place these in the dishwasher for a good clean and shine.
Clean Out Your Gutters
Rain gutters are a favorite space for leaves, sticks and other debris to get caught. Blocked gutters not only look messy, but can lead to water damage on your roof. Spring is a good time to clear out the rain gutters and make sure they’re working properly.
Weed Out Plant Beds
At least once a year, you want to do a thorough clean up of your yard. Clear out any weeds, sticks and debris to help prepare for spring growth!
Spring cleaning doesn’t have to be a painful chore. Use these projects as a to do list and get the entire family involved. Take one or two days to knock out all your projects and then enjoy your clean home all year long!
